I've been shopping at "Grocery Outlet" since it first opened in a former "Farmer's Market" location near Mather AFB in Rancho Cordova, California back around 1984. Originally called "Canned Foods Grocery Outlet", this off-price retailer sells not only "canned foods", but also pastas/cereals, health and beauty aids, paper goods, frozen foods, dairy/deli products, household cleaning supplies, hardware and also pet supplies. They're able to sell the items they have at 10-70% off because they buy liquidations and label changes from manufacturers (and other places, if the price is right, that is). You'll not only see the major brands you normally buy, but you'll see brands from other parts of the country and Canada (or on occasion, you'll see soda cans with Chinese writing on it). If you're willing to try new things, Grocery Outlet even guarantees satisfaction or your money back, so you can't lose here! Anyway, since I first shopped at Grocery Outlet, four more stores have opened in the Sacramento area and all are independently owned. Plus, while driving to Seattle, I noticed a couple of the stores off of I-5 along the way; so check your phone book, you may have one of these wonderful stores in your neighborhood! PS..they don't advertise so that's one way they keep prices low! |
